On Thursday, 19th April we had our annual beach clean-up at Cockleshell Beach, Tralee. It is a local beach near the lock gates of the Blennerville Canal.  Although the weather on the day was showery we decided to go ahead with the clean-up.

The group consisted of thirty-five 5th class pupils accompanied by Mr. Morgan,  Mr. O’ Brien and Mr. O’ Sullivan.

Kerry County Council supplied us with litter pickers, vests, gloves and plastic bags.  The bus dropped us at Cockle shell Beach at 11.00 a.m.

We spent two hours cleaning the whole beach.  The rubbish mainly consisted of plastic bottles, cans, wrappers, glass bottles and plastic containers.

Some unusual items found included an old television, a battered microwave, a rusted safe, a mattress, a sliotar and a child’s buggy.   We filled 20 bags of rubbish which was collected by the Litter Warden.

Mr.  O’ Brien, Principal took lots of photographs.  It was a great day out for everyone and we all had a really good time.
