What a great way to celebrate Maths Week! Franz Schlindwein who developed Izak9 visited Holy Family School on Thursday. Izak9 is an exciting new radical and immersive 3D maths based active learning concept – a set of puzzle blocks combined with online HD animated robot characters Abacus and Helix, who provide teachers with stimuli to guide children through their active shared learning experience. With over 25 years’ experience of teaching and learning to draw on, Franz saw at first-hand how every child learns differently and the benefits to be had from teaching maths in a way that is both engaging and fun, while at the same time catering for children of all abilities and preferred learning styles.
Izak9 enables children to learn and enjoy maths – builds self-esteem and self-confidence – it makes maths fun.
“The key benefit is the absolute joy that Izak9 brings to a classroom, not only to pupils but staff as well. To see a class of 30 children laughing and truly engaging with maths is magnificent. This resource infectiously invigorates. It creates an environment that develops a love of maths; not a loathing, not a fear, not a child is disengaged, a true, inherent love of maths. (without kids even realizing).  So we are delighted to announce that we have purchased Izak9 for the school", said Mr. O' Brien

Sergeant Chris Hoare and Gunner James Power visited Holy Family School to present us with the Irish Flag.  Sergeant Chris Hoare spoke to the children about the flag, followed by a reading of the Proclamation by four pupils from 5th class.  Mr. O' Brien then called on Conor Commane, the oldest pupil in the school and Lauren Hurley, the youngest pupil in the school to accept the flag on behalf of the pupils and staff.

The visit was special for one Senior Infant boy whose dad is currently serving in the Lebanon and is a friend and colleague of Sergeant Chris Hoare.  For more pictures visit our FaceBook Page (Holy Family School Tralee)!
